    Abstract

This IBM® Redbooks® Solution Guide introduces IBM PowerVM® virtualization technologies on IBM Power Systems™ servers. In a virtualized environment, and with the intrinsic capabilities of PowerVM, systems administrators can perform management and monitoring tasks more efficiently. PowerVM provides a secure and scalable virtualization environment for IBM AIX®, IBM i, and Linux applications. This solution guide describes several PowerVM features that can increase management and monitoring efficiencies. In particular, it offers guidance for planning and setting up the multiple shared processor pool feature.

A companion solution guide (TIPS1099) expands on these ideas and delves into the decreased total cost of computing made possible by PowerVM, along with additional management and monitoring techniques. This solution guide is for you if you have the drive to maximize the efficiency of management and monitoring activities in a virtual environment.
