    Abstract

The IBM Power11 generation represents a significant leap forward in enterprise computing, combining performance, resiliency, and automation to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving digital economy. Officially announced on July 8, 2025, and generally available on July 25, 2025, Power11 introduces innovations such as on-chip AI acceleration, hybrid cloud integration, quantum-safe security, and energy-efficient operations. Among its most transformative capabilities is Zero Planned Downtime (ZPD), a feature designed to eliminate scheduled outages during system maintenance, enabling continuous business operations without compromise.

This book focuses on ZPD and its role in creating a resilient, hybrid cloud-ready infrastructure. It provides practical guidance on how Power11 achieves ZPD through automated updates, Live Partition Mobility (LPM), Live Kernel and Library Updates, and AI-assisted orchestration. Readers will find design patterns, implementation guardrails, and a reference runbook to help adopt these capabilities effectively. By embracing ZPD, organizations can accelerate patching, reduce operational risk, and maintain uninterrupted service in an era where downtime is no longer an option.
