Description

A. Lecture:
1.Introduction to IBM GPFS (ITSO materials)
What is GPFS (Overview and history)
GPFS features (replication, availability, cluster and file system quorum and so on)
GPFS recovery mechanism considerations (disk leasing, SCSI3-PR)
GPFS Information Lifecycle Management - Storage pools and Policies
2. Introduction to IBM RSCT (ITSO materials)
RSCT infrastructure overview (RMC, Topology and Group services, Security)
RSCT Peer Domain considerations
3. Introduction to TSA-MP (CHARM.SAM) - ITSO amterials
Terminology (classes, resources, monitors, equivalencies
RSCT Clustering infrastructure usage
Cluster quorum (startup, operational and so on)
Cluster management overview (managing, unmanaging resources)
4. Introduction to IBM DB2 pureScale (I have used standard technical presentation from Toronto Lab).
Solution overview
Overall DB2 PureScale Architecture
Availability
Automatic Workload Balancing & Client Routing
Scalability
Configuration and Monitoring
Cluster configuration and operational status
Monitoring data
5. Introduction to IBM InfiniBand Offering on Power Systems (ITSO materials)
InfiniBand overview and history
InfiniBand infrastructure
Infiniband protocols
Infiniband management
IBM IB offering (systems, adapters, switches*) -- *) - general, not pureScale specific

B. Exercises (we have used two p6 550 systems - 8203-EA4 w. IB adapters and 7874-024 switch - (Qlogic Silverstorm 9024)):
(I developed the materials myself, using out test cluster)

1. Prerequisites checking
OS levels, IB SW,
udapl
storage
2. Configuring your environment (platform preparation)
Ethernet and Ib interfaces - configuration and testing
Remote command execution (SSH)
Disk preparation
iocp
DB2 prerequisites (users, system etc)
3. Installing a two-node pureScale cluster - one CF , one member - (GUI)
4. Adding a CF (command line)
5. Adding a member (GUI)
6. Removing the instance
7. Adding and instance (response file method)
8, Exercises w/ GPFS
Altering GPFS cluster in DB2 pureScale (using pureScale commands) - adding disks
Enabling GPFS replication
9. Exercises w/ GPFS Information Lifecycle Management - storage pools, filesets, placement and migration policies
10. Removing the pureScale cluster and uninstalling DB2
