Objectives
This 1-day technical seminar will provide information about the latest Parallel Sysplex-related enhancements to z/OS and supporting hardware. Performance information will also be provided based on recent ITSO projects.
Description
Topics include:
- Latest news on the new Infiniband links. These links now support similar distances to ISC, but with far superior performance.
- z/OS is IBM's flagship operating system for customers requiring the highest levels of availability. However, every system needs to be restarted at some time. This workshop will include a review of facilities and methods to minimize application outage time over a system IPL.
- Parallel Sysplex Data Sharing provides full read/write database sharing across multiple systems. However to drive the maximum advantage from this capability, optimum use should be made of the various automatic workload balancing mechanisms. Information about these mechanisms and the relationship between them will be provided.
- New sysplex-related functions delivered in z/OS
- The z/OS Health Checker infrastructure is widely exploited by various z/OS components. However, customers can create their own Health Check routines, to monitor for situations or rules that are unique to your installation. We will discuss how to provide your own REXX Health Check routines, exploiting the z/OS Health Checker infrastructure.
- Miscellaneous bits of useful information.
Prerequisites
Previous knowlege of z/OS. Hands-on experience with Parallel Sysplex will be a definite advantage.
Target Audience
The seminar is open to IBM Customers, Business Partners, Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and IBMers. IT professionals, including technical project managers, architects, systems programmers/analysts, systems designers and application developers who need to understand how to design and exploit the hardware and software infrastructure required to effectively run modern System z solutions.
