Description

This will create a new IBM Redbook on the IBM c-type storage networking product, and include introduction and implementation.

At the moment we intend to run this residency in Raleigh, NC at Cisco's lab, and as we have not fully locked down start/end dates, we are accepting expressions of interest from potential residents with an aniticpated start date of early December (in either case after Thanksgiving).

If you are interested in this residency then please indicate your availability, how much notice you require, and whether you are available to work on-site or remote, or a mix of.

Benefits to Resident

This will create a new IBM Redbook based on Cisco and IBM products as they relate to FICON, FCP, and FCIP. For readers with a long memory, it will be based on the now obsolete "Implementing the Cisco MDS 9000 in an Intermix FCP, FCIP, and FICON Environment, SG24-6397", and we will update it using the latest IBM and Cisco equipment.

The format of this residency will be one week onsite in Cisco's Raleigh, North Carolina campus, for product and people familiarization and up to 3 weeks remote work once residents have returned to their home location.

IBM Redbooks want technical practitioners to be recognized for their newly gained knowledge, experience, and accomplishments. Therefore, upon successful delivery of the publication produced by this IBM Redbooks residency, you will become eligible to earn an IBM Redbooks Digital Badge issued through Pearson VUE Acclaim.

Objectives

This will create an IBM Redbook based on the partnership between IBM and Cisco.

Resident Prerequisites

A basic requirement for all residents is the ability to read and clearly express concepts and procedures in common English.

ONLY APPLY IF YOU HAVE FULL MANAGEMENT APPROVAL AND ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE ANTICIPATED START DATE, AND DON'T LEAVE IT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO APPLY AS I MAY SELECT SUITABLE CANDIDATES AS THE APPLICATIONS COME IN.

YOU MUST BE FLEXIBLE IN YOUR START AND END DATES AS THESE MAY CHANGE.

THE ITSO WILL PAY ALL TRAVEL AND LIVING EXPENSES.

Applicants are expected to be fully familiar with IBM and Cisco's c-type products from an implementation and architecture standpoint covering FCP, FICON, and FCIP.

Residents must be flexible and prepared to adopt a pragmatic approach in what may be a dynamically changing environment. As new announcements are made, these will need to be incorporated. This means that residents must be prepared to show creativity to make sure that the relevant information is included in the book. Not all one resident has to have all the skills we ask for. The team that is selected will take care of this.

For especially well qualified applicants I am happy to consider a shorter duration on-site residency followed by a part time/remote residency to fit in with your "real" jobs as the business demands it. This can be as an author, technical reviewer, adviser, performance specialist, etc. So, if you think that you would like to work on it, even if it is to sign up for one chapter, then let me know.

Applicants are STRONGLY encouraged to include any relevant and additional information that applies to this residency in the free-form part of the nomination form as that often means the difference in being considered for selection or not.

Please do not send me your resume/CV, and expect me to read it and match your skills to the residency.
