Description

The overall goal of the residency is to create a publication describing how to implement and manage hyperconverge private cloud solution using theoretical knowledge, hands-on exercises, and documenting the findings by way of sample scenarios.

The IBM Redbooks publication that the residents will develop is targeted toward technical readers including IT specialist, systems architects, brand specialist, sales team, and anyone looking for a guide on how to implement and manage a high-performance enterprise infrastructure and private cloud platform for big data, artificial intelligence, transactional and analytics workloads on Power Systems.

Benefits to Resident

This in another opportunity to participate in the IBM Redbooks residency program and use the available hardware, software, training materials, and documentation resources to develop the Implementing and managing a high-performance enterprise infrastructure and private cloud platform with Nutanix web scale technology running on IBM Hyperconverged Power Systems (1U and 2U POWER-based appliances: IBM CS821 and IBM CS822). This book describes how use your existing infrastructure to transform your business to run data intensive workloads on IBM Power Systems. The integrated solution targets demanding transactional and cognitive analytics workloads with an infrastructure that is easy to manage and simple to scale.

The residents will work closely with the technical focal points (IBM and Nutanix teams) including the software, hardware, and storage development teams, and get hands-on experiences while developing a guide with case studies to show the capabilities of the solution that combines Nutanix Enterprise Cloud Platform software with IBM Power Systems. The residents will participate in training and discussion sessions with technical leaders from Nutanix, IBM Power Systems, IBM Storage, IBM Spectrum Scale, IBM Cloud Private, and other teams, provide feedback, and author the Implementing and managing a high-performance enterprise infrastructure and private cloud platform with Nutanix running on IBM Hyperconverged Power Systems publication.

After these four week experience (please see the residency time table), each resident will develop new connections to the development teams across Nutanix and IBM. In addition, the residents will develop new and refresh skills on Nutanix’s comprehensive distributed file system and data services running in a hyper-convergence infrastructure, thus enabling you to provide a leading role on implementation, and support.

===>>>>> Please NOTE the Residency Program Time Table <<<<======

This residency begins on September 16, 2019 and ends October 11, 2019 (4 weeks, please see schedule below), and requires 3 residents. The residency is running at IBM Guadalajara, Mexico with the following format:

The residency will kick off locally at IBM Guadalajara, Mexico on Monday September 16, 2019:

For the four weeks (September 16 through October 11) - The local residents will gather at IBM Guadalajara, Mexico.
For the four weeks (September 16 through October 11) - The remote residents will work from their respective countries.

Time table for the traveling residents:
For the four weeks (September 16 through October 11) - The traveling residents joining the local team will gather at IBM Guadalajara, Mexico.

Additional Notes:

+ Please make sure you have full management approval before applying considering the time table above.
+ You must be flexible in your start and end dates as these may change.
+ IBM Redbooks will pay all travel and living expenses according to the IBM Travel Guidelines.

IBM Redbooks want technical practitioners to be recognized for their newly gained knowledge, experience, and accomplishments. Therefore, upon successful delivery of the publication produced by this IBM Redbooks residency, you will become eligible to earn an IBM Redbooks Digital Badge issued through Pearson VUE Acclaim.

Objectives

The IBM Redbooks publication that the residents will develop addresses topics for IT architects, IT specialists, developers, sellers and anyone looking to implement and manage a high-performance enterprise infrastructure and private cloud platform on IBM Power Systems. Moreover, this publication will provide documentation to transfer the how-to-skills to the technical teams, and solution guidance to the sales team. This book compliments any documentation available at the IBM Knowledge Center, and also aligns with the educational materials provided by the IBM Systems Software Education (SSE).

The residency will utilize any available documentation, hardware, and software resources to:

+ Document the web-scale architecture demonstrating simplicity and agility public clouds.
+ Showcase the hyperconverge infrastructure to help cloud native applications mine cognitive analytics workloads.
+ Conduct and document implementation case studies.
+ Document guidelines to help provide an optimal system configuration, implementation, and management.
+ Provide guidance to the sales teams about the solution.

Resident Prerequisites

A basic requirement for all residents is the ability to read and clearly express concepts and procedures in common English.

Technical Skills Required

NOTE: You won't match one-to-one all the necessary technical prerequisites, but the combine residency team will bring the skills required for the project. Please provide as much detail of your technical expertize and experiences with the solution.

The selected residents will bring the following (combined) technical skills to the residency:

IBM Infrastructure:

+ Knowledge and experiences with Multi Cloud and Hybrid Cloud Solutions
+ Experience working with Containers and Kubernetes
+ Experience with Nutanix (hypervisor and software)
+ IBM Power Systems (IBM S821LC and IBM S822LC) installation, management including virtualization features
+ Linux installation and management
+ IBM AIX v7.2 installation and management
+ Storage Solutions (including Samsung flash configurations)
+ TCP/IP network administration
+ IBM middleware installation and administration
+ Willing to read, learn, dialogue, ask questions, and challenge the teams

In addition to authoring a Redbooks deliverable, participants will be expected to create at least one technical blog post and to appear in one video to complement the main deliverable. The blog posts can be done during the residency, or immediately after the residency ends and the participant has returned home. Participants will also be asked to help promote all deliverables created during the residency through social media.
