Abstract

Among the IBM eServer iSeries hot topics for 2003 is expediting the transition of existing 5250-based iSeries applications to e-business, Web-based network environments. This IBM Redbook targets those who want to use Web interfaces to access iSeries resources and run 5250 applications. It focuses on iSeries Access for Web and the Host Access Transformation Server Limited Edition (HATS LE). HATS LE is the unique iSeries-only version of the Host Access Transformation Server V4, a product in the IBM Host Integration Solutions set of products.

This redbook demonstrates how easily you can bring 5250-based applications to the Web using iSeries Access for Web and HATS LE. You learn how to install, configure, and customize the browser-based capabilities of these products. These include the required Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) server and IBM WebSphere Application Server Version 5 products for iSeries.

Examples show how to use various iSeries Access for Web functions and capabilities particularly for V5R2. Such functions include using Structured Query Language (SQL) to access OS/400 database tables and working with jobs, printer output, and system message queues.

Later, you see examples of linking between iSeries Access for Web, HATS LE, and IBM WebSphere Development Studio Client WebFacing applications. You also see a comparison of several IBM 5250 refacing tools. You gain helpful troubleshooting information and tips. Plus you can review a feature comparison between iSeries Access for Web and HATS LE application functions.
