Identity Management Design Guide with IBM Tivoli Identity Manager

Identity management is the concept of providing a unifying interface to manage all aspects related to individuals and their interactions with the business. It is the process that enables business initiatives by efficiently managing the user life cycle (including identity/resource provisioning for users) and by integrating into the required business processes. Identity management encompasses all the data and processes related to the representation of an individual involved in electronic transactions.

This IBM® Redbooks® publication provides a methodology for designing an identity management solution with IBM Tivoli® Identity Manager 5.0. Starting from the high-level, organizational viewpoint we show how to define user registration and maintenance processes using the self-registration and self-care interfaces as well as the delegated administration capabilities. Using the integrated workflow, we automate the submission and approval processes for identity management requests and with the automated user provisioning we take workflow output and automatically implement the administrative requests on the environment with no administrative intervention.

Dale LeFevre is a Software Security Solution Architect currently assigned to the SoftWare Advanced Technology (SWAT) team. He provides technical security solution support to a large customer base leading the z/OS-based engagements for all security products that reside and run on the z/OS platform, which include proofs of concept (POCs), proofs of technology (POT), demos, briefings, and so on. He holds degrees in electrical engineering, telecommunication with an emphasis on computer networks, and computer science from both Rochester Institute of Technology and Southern Methodist University. Pär Kidman is a Certified Consulting IT Specialist at IBM Software Group in Sweden. He has 15 years of IT experience working in areas such as technical support, consulting services, and technical sales. He has worked for IBM for nine years and has specialized in Tivoli Security for the last seven years. His areas of expertise are directory services, directory integration, identity and access management and compliance. Ralf Willert is a IBM Accredited IT Specialist at the Tivoli Service Team in Germany. He holds degrees in mathematics and computer science. He began his career designing and implementing messaging and collaboration infrastructures, building world-wide mail backbones. Since 1998 he has focused on Directory Services and identify management solutions. Ralf has more than five years of experience as the Lead Architect of Tivoli Security solutions and was responsible for numerous successful Tivoli Identity Manager projects in Germany. Before joining Tivoli Services in June 2003, Ralf worked for IBM and Lotus in Germany as a Senior Domino I/T Architect.

Jason Wu is a Senior IT Specialist in the Tivoli Global Response Team, responsible for resolving customer situations involving the Tivoli security product suite. He holds a master's degree in information systems and management from the University of New South Wales. Jason has been in the IT industry for eight years with experience in security, systems management, and Tivoli product implementation. Prior to joining IBM Tivoli in 2005, Jason was a security consultant with IBM Business Consulting Services. Jason is based in Sydney, Australia.
