Liberty in IBM CICS: Deploying and Managing Java EE Applications
Application Platform

Redbooks, published 18 Jan 2018, last updated 29 Mar 2018

This IBM® Redbooks® publication is intended for IBM CICS® system programmers and IBM Z architects. It describes how to deploy and manage Java EE 7 web-based applications in an IBM CICS Liberty JVM server and access data on IBM Db2® for IBM z/OS® and IBM MQ for z/OS sub systems. In this book, we describe the key steps to create and install a Liberty JVM server within a CICS region. We then describe how to best use the different deployment techniques for Java EE applications and the specific considerations when deploying applications that use JDBC, JMS, and the new CICS link to Liberty API. ... zEDC Compression: DFSMShsm Sample Implementation
z Systems Software

Redpaper, published 7 Apr 2015, last updated 29 Mar 2018

Before the announcement of zEDC hardware compression, DFSMShsm was already able to compress migration and backup data using its own compaction (based on Huffman frequency Encoding algorithm) on disk and tape data. This Redpaper shares a sample implementation of zEDC hardware compression performed in a controlled test environment and looks at the impact of zEDC compression up to Migration Level 1.

IBM DS8000 Easy Tier (for DS8880 R8.3 or later)
Disk storage

Redpaper, published 14 Nov 2017, last updated 28 Mar 2018

This IBM® Redpaper™ publication describes the concepts and functions of IBM System Storage® Easy Tier® and explains its practical use with the IBM DS8800 series and License Machine Code 8.8.30.xx.xx, or later. Easy Tier is designed to automate data placement throughout the storage system disks pool. It enables the system to (automatically and without disruption to applications) relocate data (at the extent level) across up to three drive tiers. The process is fully automated. Easy Tier also automatically rebalances extents among ranks within the same tier, removing workload skew between ... [more]

IBM FlashSystem V9000 AE3 and AC3 Performance
Flash storage

Redpaper, published 28 Mar 2018

This IBM® Redpaper™ publication provides information about the best practices and performance capabilities when implementing a storage solution using IBM FlashSystem® V9000 9846-AC3 with IBM FlashSystem V9000 9846-AE3 storage enclosures. The results that are achieved and demonstrated are specific to the used configuration. However, they can be used as reference points for other configurations. There was no intention to demonstrate the best or the worst results, or minimal latency, or maximum throughput. We tried to stay closer to the configurations and workloads used by IBM clients and ... IBM Storage Networking SAN24B-6 Switch
Storage Networking

Product Guide, published 27 Jul 2017, last updated 28 Mar 2018

This IBM® Redbooks® product guide describes the IBM Storage Networking SAN24B-6 switch. Explosive data growth, coupled with user expectations of unlimited access from anywhere, at any time, is pushing storage environments to the limit. To meet these dynamic business demands, the network must evolve to improve speed, increase efficiency, and reduce costs. Legacy infrastructures were not designed to support the performance requirements of flash-based storage technology. A new approach to storage networking is required to unlock the full capabilities of all-flash arrays. By treating the network ... [more]
