Great kick off with this new series, Mainframe from Scratch.
Lots of good information packed into this for the first timer.
I look forward to the additional volumes

There are a lot of people who are 'mainframe literate' (so called) who should read this Redbook and subsequent volumes when they become available. And I would not wait if I were them.

Since DB2 12 went GA Oct 21, 2016, few "from Scratch" sites should be wasting time with DB2 11 since, for example, SAP validated DB2 12 and provided immediate support.

It would be helpful if this Redbook was updated to eliminate the DB2 11 material and replace it with DB2 12 material. Learn and test with DB2 12 and avoid later migration.

It would be helpful if this Redbook was updated to discuss and use the first Consolidated Service Test RSU with DB2 12 to install DB2 12 and then apply the next three RSUs to illustrate the importance of starting "from Scratch" with a properly maintained integrated SW base, while providing practice in keeping it properly maintained. Proper habits at the start.

It would be helpful to update the Redbook to reference DB2 12 Continuous Delivery and to ACTIVATE function level V12R1M500 from the start, and then the highest V12R1M5xx function levels possible with the applied RSUs. New function should be available "from Scratch" without delay.

The first two Redbook posts here were posted in March 2016, yet the publish date shows as December 22, 2016, and there is no sign that there was an earlier version. Was there a timestamping glitch or are these comments for a more than 9 month old draft? The "15 March 2016" post is intriguing. Please post an elaboration.
