View the effectiveness of your queries with Visual Explain

You can use the Visual Explain tool with Operations Navigator to display a graphical representation of the methods that the query optimizer used to process your queries. Visual Explain draws a graphical map of the query and provides a summary of how each step of the query performed.

You can then use this data in your debugging phase to make adjustments to your query that may influence the processing into choosing a different implementation.

You can launch Visual Explain from the following windows in Operations Navigator:

• Choose from a list of queries associated with a performance monitor. Click on a query and select List explainable statements. This opens the Explainable statements for SQL performance monitor window.
• Enter a statement in the Run SQL Scripts window. Select the statement and choose Explain... from the context menu, or select Run and Explain... from the Visual Explain pull-down menu.
