Configuring AS/400 NetServer with the address of the network WINS server

You can configure AS/400 NetServer with the address of the network Windows Internet Naming Service (WINS) server by using Operations Navigator. WINS allows PC clients to connect to and access AS/400 NetServer shared resources.

To configure AS/400 NetServer with the address of the network WINS server, follow these steps:

  1. Open a connection to Operations Navigator on your AS/400.
  2. Expand Network.
  3. Expand Servers.
  4. Click TCP/IP.
  5. Right-click AS/400 NetServer and select Properties.
  6. Select the WINS Configuration tab.
  7. Click Next start.
  8. In the Primary WINS server field, enter the IP address of the network WINS server. AS/400 NetServer uses this WINS server for client connections the next time that you start AS/400 NetServer.
  9. In the Secondary WINS server field, enter the IP address of the secondary network WINS server. AS/400 NetServer uses this secondary WINS server for client connections the next time that you start AS/400 NetServer.
  10. In the Scope ID field, enter a text string to serve as the network scope for the WINS server. The WINS server uses this scope ID the next time that you start AS/400 NetServer.
    Note:You must configure any PC clients that use AS/400 NetServer with the same scope ID that you specify here. WINS also functions properly if you leave this entry for scope ID blank on both AS/400 NetServer and any clients.
  11. Specify if you would like to enable or disable the AS/400 NetServer to act as a WINS proxy.
  12. Click OK to save your changes.
