IBM System x at-a-glance guide

Abstract

The IBM Half-high LTO Generation 4 SAS Tape Drive delivers enterprise-class capacity at an entry level LTO Generation 4 price point. The drive offers an attractively priced entry offering into LTO technology. It is designed for mid- to high-end System x servers that require high-capacity, high-performance, and high-reliability tape solutions in a 5.25-inch, half-high form factor.

Using its onboard hardware data compression feature and assuming a 2:1 compression ratio, this drive can store up to 1600 GB compressed per cartridge at a backup rate of up to 240 MB/s. The LTO Generation 4 delivers strong performance with data transfers of up to 120 MB/s in native mode (432 GB/hr) and up to 240 MB/s in compressed mode (864 GB/hr).

Did You Know?

Data security is a growing requirement for businesses of all sizes today. The IBM Half-high LTO Generation 4 SAS Tape Drive delivers advanced security features to help ensure compliancy with data security, information disclosure, and privacy regulations for data at rest. Beyond WORM (Write-Once, Read-Many) cartridge support to preserve data in a non-erasable and non-rewritable format, LTO 4 technology also provides AES 256-bit data encryption capabilities. LTO 4 hardware-based data encryption can assist in safeguarding against costly security breaches and exposure of proprietary data if a data cartridge is stolen or lost.
