Abstract
The ongoing operation, in particular the creation of users (or groups), must be considered as part of the system design. User provisioning, in the ITSO working example portal based document management system, consists of registering a user entity in both WebSphere Portal and DB2 Content Manager.

If we assume that we have implemented a shared LDAP user repository, users (or groups) are created in the directory server by:
- Tivoli Directory Server administration console
- LDIF file imports
- WebSphere Portal Manage User and Groups portlet
These users (or groups) are immediately available to the portal, and propagated to the DB2 Content Manager system user registry via the DB2 Content Manager User Import utility at a scheduled interval. The following figure depicts the actual flow of user and user group definitions during the user registration process.

For more detailed information on the implementation, refer to the Document Management, Using WebSphere Portal V5.0.2 and DB2 Content Manager V8.2, SG24-6349 redbook.
