WebSphere Portal on Linux for zSeries problem determination - PDP002I – MSG - You must have installed the following software to install WebSphere Portal. /usr/lib/libncurses.so.4

Abstract

This is a problem description document (PDD) related to WebSphere Portal on Linux for zSeries.

Contents

PDD002Z – MSG - You must have installed the following software to install WebSphere Portal. /usr/lib/libncurses.so.4

Phase: Installation and configuration

Area: prerequisites

Extended description:
After executing the Setup Manager Installer program (install.sh) to start the WebSphere Portal Server install, Setup Manager checks for prerequisites. After you press the NEXT button, Setup Manager produces the message: You must have installed the following software to install WebSphere Portal. /usr/lib/libncurses.so.4.

Diagnosis and solution:
Setup Manager requires libncurses.so.4 to reside in /usr/lib directory. Thus, if libncurses.so.4 resides in another directory, a symbolic link must be created. The Linux for zSeries system programmer needs to create a symbolic link to the directory /usr/lib/ for libncurses.so.4 in order for Setup Manager to work, as it explicitly uses this directory name. This is an example to create a link:
ln –s /lib/libncurses.so.4 /usr/lib/libncurses.so.4
