Contents

IBM Lotus Domino 6 for iSeries has a new product ID of 5733-LD6. It is now distributed only via the IBM Software Group/Lotus Passport contract channel. It can no longer be configured in the iSeries e-configurator.

Domino 6 for iSeries no longer ships a separate set of release notes. Now Lotus maintains a single release notes image for all supported Domino platforms, with a separate chapter for iSeries-specific information. The release notes are made available in both .NSF and .PDF files and are included in the root directory of the Domino 6 for iSeries CD. The release notes are also made available for download on the Internet from the Lotus Developer Domain Documentation Library at: http://www.lotus.com/ldd/doc

Two Domino 6 for iSeries manuals are available: an installing and managing document and an application development document. Both of these documents are made available for download on the Internet from the Lotus Developer Domain Documentation Library Web site at: http://www.lotus.com/ldd/doc

The Installing and Managing Domino 6 for iSeries document is also included in the root directory of the Domino 6 for iSeries CD in both .NSF and .PDF formats. Lotus no longer ships hardcopy documentation with the Domino product.

Features removed
The following features are no longer available with Domino 6 for iSeries:

  • Integration via AnyMail/Mail Server Framework (MSF):

The integration support of the OS/400 AnyMail/MSF has been removed. Separate TCP/IP interfaces must now be used for Domino SMTP and OS/400 SMTP.

  • Directory Synchronization:

With OfficeVision/400 support being removed from OS/400 V5R2, the directory synchronization function is not included with Domino 6 for iSeries.

  • No national language version of the installation and configuration screens (green screens).

The Domino 6 for iSeries OS/400 CL commands and menus (that is, the 5250 green screens) are English only. There is no translation of the Domino OS/400 CL commands and menus. However, the Domino plug-in for the iSeries Navigator interface (that is, the graphical user interface) is still translated. Translations are part of the language packs available with Domino 6 for iSeries.

  • No LPP or preload support:

In some countries, Domino preload support was available for Domino for iSeries R5. This service is no longer available. Domino 6 for iSeries is now distributed only via the IBM Software Group/Lotus Passport contract channel. It can no longer be configured in the iSeries e-configurator.

Installation
Domino for iSeries R5 had seven product options to install. For Domino 6 for iSeries, these options have been reduced to only two options: a *BASE option and option 1, which is the C API feature. Two methods exist for installing the Domino 6 for iSeries code:
  • InstallShield:

InstallShield is the new graphical user interface for installing Domino 6. This new Java-based interface resides on the Lotus Domino CD and is automatically invoked by iSeries Navigator or EZ-Setup. It can also be manually invoked directly by running the setup.exe program.

  • Load and Run (LODRUN) OS/400 CL command:

LODRUN remains a valid Domino 6 product installation interface for Domino for iSeries.

National language support
Unlike Domino R5, fully translated versions of the Domino 6 product are not available. This means the installation process for a national language version of Domino 6 is now different from the Domino R5 installation. To deploy Domino 6 in a language other than English, you must first install the English version of Domino 6 and then add the translated language objects from the Language Pack CD.

Configuration
A new Domino 6 Server Setup wizard replaces the R5 Web-based Domino setup wizard and the R5 EZ Setup wizard for Domino. The Domino 6 Server Setup wizard is written in Java and no longer requires the special *HTTPSETUP Domino server on the iSeries server. This new wizard is a common implementation for all Domino 6 platforms, although the implementation includes some minor platform-unique code and panels. For example, there are some unique panels for iSeries servers. The wizard executable file, domwzd.exe, consists of the domwzd.jar file plus the required Java Runtime Environment (JRE). This allows the Domino Server Setup wizard to be run from a supported Windows client without the user needing to install the required JRE. You can start the Domino Server Setup wizard in one of three ways:

  • From iSeries Navigator
  • From EZ-Setup
  • Start the domwzd.exe file directly from the Lotus Domino 6 for iSeries CD

The Configure Domino Server (CFGDOMSVR) CL command is still a supported and valid method for configuring an iSeries Domino server if you prefer to use the OS/400 CL command interface.

Administration
To help you manage a Domino 6 server, a new Java-based application, called the Domino Console, allows you allows you to manage your Domino servers from a workstation. For example, you can remotely start or stop the Domino server using the Domino Console.

Also new with Domino 6 is the Server Controller, which is a Java-based program that controls a Domino server. If you are going to control your Domino 6 for iSeries server with the new Java-based Domino Console, the Server Controller needs to be active. Starting the Server Controller starts the Domino server it controls. On an iSeries server, the Server Controller job name is called CONTROLLER and runs under the Domino server subsystem.

Support for IBM HTTP Server (powered by Apache)
Domino 6 for iSeries continues to support the configuration of Domino to use an OS/400 HTTP stack, but with Domino 6 for iSeries, only the IBM HTTP Server (powered by Apache) stack is supported. The original OS/400 HTTP stack is not supported by Domino 6. Existing users of the OS/400 HTTP original stack with Domino R5 need to modify their configuration when moving to Domino 6 so that the HTTP Server (powered by Apache) is used. This new plug-in is provided with the IBM HTTP Server product (5722-DG1) as a PTF in OS/400 releases V5R2 and V5R1.

Domino and WebSphere bundling
IBM's strategic Web application server is WebSphere Application Server, which provides full J2EE support. Domino 6 includes a limited-use license for WebSphere Application Server Advanced Edition. Customers who purchase the Domino 6 Enterprise Server or the Domino 6 Utility Server product license can go to the Passport Advantage Web site and download WebSphere Application Server Advanced Edition. Initially, the WebSphere Application Server version is 4.0 with entitlement switching to WebSphere Application Server 5.0 in the future. Domino 6 will not ship with WebSphere Application Server CDs.

After downloading WebSphere Application Server 4.0, iSeries customers need to install the WebSphere Application Server Advanced Edition fix pack to access the supported version of WebSphere Application Server 4.0.4 or later for use with Domino 6 for iSeries. They also need to download the WebSphere Application Server Windows version so that they can access the WebSphere Application Server Advanced Edition client administration tool for managing the iSeries WebSphere Application Server Advanced Edition server.

The WebSphere Application Server entitlement is included for the purpose of augmenting Domino applications with Java servlets, JavaServer Pages (JSPs), and Web services. This restricted license limits the use to:

  • Use on the same physical server as the purchased Domino software
  • Access to Domino objects and Domino-hosted data only
  • No entitlement to WebSphere Java connectors
  • No entitlement to run Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs)

If a customer wants to use the WebSphere Java connectors or run EJBs in their applications, they must purchase a full WebSphere Application Server license.

Most existing Domino customers today do not need to download or install WebSphere Application Server to support their current environments. They can install and use Domino 6 for iSeries without installing WebSphere Application Server.

For compatibility, Domino 6 continues to support the Java servlet engine that was available with Domino R5. This Java servlet engine provides servlet support only, but the level of servlet support is JSDK 2.0, which is old. With WebSphere Application Server, the servlet support is at the current JSDK 2.2 level.
