Abstract
This IBM Redbook is a self-study guide for the WebSphere Studio Device Developer (WSDD) application development tool. WebSphere Studio Device Developer is the IBM tool for Java development for client (embedded) applications.
WebSphere Studio Device Developer:
- Provides an integrated development environment (IDE) for creating and testing applications that will be deployed on handsets and other small devices.
- Helps developers create applications that enable "devices" (mobile phones, PDAs, and other pervasive devices) to become part of an end-to-end e-business solution
- Extends the WebSphere family to build applications based on J2ME profiles and configurations for running on "Java- powered" devices
- Combines mobile-device convenience with the power of WebSphere
- Includes a developer’s edition of WebSphere Micro Environment for developing J2ME applications
A free evaluation licensed copy of WebSphere Studio Device Developer is available for download at:

WebSphere Studio Device Developer provides support for Palm and PocketPC devices to allow testing code directly on the device, as well as emulated support for Palm and generic MIDP devices.
