DB2 for OS/390 and z/OS Powering the World's e-business Solutions

This IBM Redbook provides an understanding of the environment required to access DB2 for OS/390 and z/OS
Version 7 for use with an Internet Web server.

More and more customers worldwide are using DB2 technology on the S/390 platform to implement a wide variety of mission-critical business applications. The Web is used to enhance DB2's role as a true enterprise database server. This redbook provides a brief introduction and overview of Internet concepts and terminology to offer a perspective for DB2 users. A broad understanding of several application and middleware solutions including Web servers, Java applications and applets using SQLJ or JDBC, and Net.Data is provided. Paolo Bruni is on assignment as a Data Management Specialist for DB2 for OS/390 at the International Technical Support Organization, San Jose Center, where he conducts projects in all areas of DB2 for OS/390. Before joining the ITSO in 1998, Paolo worked as a Consultant IT Architect for IBM in Italy. During his 31 years with IBM, in development and in the field, Paolo's work mostly has been related to database systems.

Gareth Jones is a Technical Solutions Specialist in the United Kingdom. He joined the IT business in 1984 and has 13 years of experience as a DB2 Systems Programmer and DBA. He joined IBM in April 2000. He has supported a wide variety of applications including banking and finance, manufacturing, transport, distribution and retailing. He holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology.

Kyung Soon Um is a Senior Education Specialist with IBM Global Learning Services in Korea. She joined IBM Korea 11 years ago as a Database Administrator and Systems Programmer, supporting DB2 for OS/390. She has developed course material and taught DB2 across all platforms. Her areas of expertise include TCP/IP connectivity and performance tuning. More recently she specialized in business intelligence solutions and data sharing.
