Abstract
This IBM Redbooks publication, Netfinity and Domino R5.0 Integration Guide, is designed to help individuals who need to plan, tune, or size IBM Netfinity Servers for Lotus Domino by providing detailed examples and scenarios. Particular attention has been paid to providing sizing and performance guidance for a number of environments.
Domino network design and capacity planning recommendations are given, with hints and tips to help you investigate and solve performance bottlenecks on your server. Lotus Domino clustering technology is described in a chapter devoted to this important topic. The simplicity with which clusters can be configured, improving both performance and availability, is a key aspect of the Domino strategy and so is covered here in some depth.
Several tools that can aid in the server selection process are discussed, as well as industry-standard "rules of thumb" for configuring small, medium, and large Domino environments. Although Domino will run on a range of operating systems, the book generally refers to Windows NT Server implementations, as most current and new installations of Notes are on this platform.
The book also describes in overview the new features found in Domino R5 - the latest version of Lotus Development Corporation's leading integrated messaging and Web application software platform.
Some knowledge of Intel-based servers, Lotus Notes, Lotus Domino and network operating systems is assumed.
