DB2 for OS/390 and Data Compression

Redbooks logo

An IBM Redbooks publication

Abstract

Compression may introduce several advantages in dealing with large
volumes of DB2 data. In this redbook we review the support provided by
DB2 for OS/390 for data compression and position DB2 in the context of
other IBM products that also provide compression, particularly RAMAC
Virtual Array storage devices and their use in DB2 environments.

We explain how to evaluate and implement DB2 compression and, using
real-life scenarios and laboratory measurements, we show you what to
expect from compression when you use RVA devices.
