    Abstract

    Jupiter was a joint project between IBM® and SAP®. The purpose of the benchmark was to scale a database from 5 to 25 terabytes with little or no decrease in performance. The products focused on SAP NetWeaver® Business Intelligence (BI) and SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator, implemented on an IBM server infrastructure. Our solution demonstrates the capabilities of the accelerator in a very large IBM configuration. We tested scalability with increasing data volumes and resources.

    This redpaper describes the implementation and results of our project, including:

    - The Jupiter solution configuration

    - The SAP BI database load of three data sizes: 5 TB, 15 TB, and 25 TB

    - Test case scenarios for SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator index creation and multi-user query loads, using the three data sizes with different BI Accelerator configurations

    This paper presents the test results, which were validated by an independent third party, WinterCorp. It features the setup and tuning techniques that we used for our large SAP NetWeaver BI Accelerator solution. The benchmark was performed at the Advanced Client Technology (ACT!) System z™ Benchmark Center located in Poughkeepsie, New York. The duration of the project was six months.
