Abstract
IBM DB2 Universal Database (DB2 UDB) is configured to run on any system that meets its minimum hardware requirements. As a result, the basic configuration provided must be tuned to achieve optimum performance on systems that exceed the these requirements. Tuning a system can be quite involved. Volumes could be written (and often have been) on tuning each system level. Because the subject is quite complex, no single paper can really teach you everything about tuning a system for optimum performance. However, a single paper can cover the basics needed to tune one level of a system and that is the main purpose of this IBM Redpaper. It provides you with basic tuning information and a set of guidelines that can be used to modify the basic configuration of DB2 UDB to improve overall database performance.
