The provisioning of SAN attached storage capacity to a server can be a time consuming and cumbersome process. The task requires skilled storage administrators, and the complexity of the task can restrict an IT department's ability to respond quickly to requests to provision new capacity. However, there is a solution to this through automation.

This Redpaper looks at how an automated storage provisioning solution can be realized for a Windows environment using IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center 3.1 (TPC) and IBM Tivoli Provisioning Manager 3.1 (TPM). Together with provisioning workflows, these two products provide a complete solution to the automated end-to-end provisioning of usable storage capacity on the Windows platform.

As implemented for the Windows platform, this Redpaper describes the solution for the automated provisioning of SAN attached storage capacity on the IBM storage devices supported by IBM TotalStorage Productivity Center 3.1.
