Abstract
This document provides the reader with information necessary to
understand the issues facing local area network planners and designers
today.
It positions IBM and industry standards and technologies, as well as
techniques and products to enable our audience - IBM customers,
systems specialists, networking specialists and systems architects -
to better understand current, state-of-the-art LAN-to-LAN and
LAN-to-WAN interconnection options.
It covers physical and logical design choices with an emphasis on the
practical, everyday aspects and issues related to LAN implementations;
it examines some of the underlying architectural principles as well.
One should have a background in networking and be familiar with
such issues as infrastructure, support and management to obtain
maximum benefit from this book.
