The IBM® Lotus® and IBM Redbooks® teams have partnered together to show you, by example, how to build and implement a social portal using IBM WebSphere® Portal Server Version 8.0 with IBM Connections Version 4.0.

Using IBM web experience technology, you can create a social portal that provides a whole new dimension of web capabilities within the websites that you have for your customers and employees, without the need for extensive custom programming.

Integrating social capabilities into the wider web experience offers a number of benefits for your company, for example:
    • Getting closer to your customers and gaining insights, fostering loyalty, and deepening the relationship with them
    • Creating a next generation, differentiated customer experience that attracts, engages, and retains the best customers; improves brand loyalty; and lowers operational costs
    • Delivering exceptional web experiences to your employees, customers, business partners, and across your enterprise

IBM Customer Experience Suite and IBM Employee Experience Suite deliver rich, engaging, and socially-infused web experiences. IBM Connections, one of the core products in these suites, is an open and secure social software platform that helps people engage with networks of expertise and integrated business processes. IBM WebSphere Portal and IBM Web Content Manager, two core products of these suites, offer facilities to support the creation of a social portal, especially when combined with the social capabilities of IBM Connections.
