What about S814 4-core System just announced? Have a different Backplanes than 6/8-core or are the same Backplanes of 12 (6+6 with split) or 18 Disk Bays but with limited use for only 8 Disk?

This week's publication is still missing the S814 4-core system mentioned in June.

You should probably make reference to the IBM i P05, P10 etc. software tiers other than just in the CBU section. It is a major determinant in system selection.

Thanks John. The papers were locked down while in edit. I will update this, and also make an online excel sheet that can be used to track features which should help as less major features are made available.

I will be pointing sellers and technical sellers to this document for education, so would also like to see it updated to include the 4-core S814 announcement and positioning. What is the usual practice for updating this and other "current product line" Redbooks as new announcements are made?

There is a small update planned in the next couple of weeks.

An updated version of this publication is available today with corrections based on your comments, and additional major features if required.

Thank you for the updates. Very useful.

On p25 you say "you do not use an HMC or IVM, the Power S814 and Power S824 runs in full system partition mode, which means that a single partition owns all the server resources, and only one operating system can be installed."
This is not my understanding. I think you can use VPM which supports multiple IBM i and Linux partitions and also Windows storage (hosted by a single partition). See http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i_72/rzait/rzaitforcedst.htm

I downloaded latest version of this Redpaper ( Last update Jan/26/2017, but on PDF, "First Edition (August 2014)" appeared. I don't know which is correct. )
On Table 1-25 "Available Fibre Channel adapters" on page 68, it says Fibre Channel HBA EN0A is supported only on Linux, but on SSIC, more options available. EN0A is supported many version of AIX, Linux, IBM i and VIOS.
I think this is very misleading and please update it on next update.
